Zimbabwe, a once-proud cricketing nation, is currently working for redemption. A long-term economic crisis and poor management caused Zimbabwean cricket to decline.
They are now vying against unimpressive teams to advance to the regional final, which is the last stop before India and Sri Lanka co-host the T20 World Cup in 2026. After placing third in the African qualifications, behind Namibia and Uganda, they were unable to attend the most recent World Cup.

Having learnt the hard lesson, Sikandar Raza & Co. have started their qualifying campaign with utmost care. Big wins, by 76 runs (DLS method) against Seychelles and by nine wickets against Mozambique, have lifted the only Test-playing team to the top of Group B, ahead of hosts Kenya, who are also unbeaten so far.

A big win against Rwanda, and their already superior Net Run Rate (NRR) of +10.892 would become even more incomparable, as against Kenya's +4.397. The top two teams from Group B will progress to the Africa regional final where they will compete against already qualified Namibia and Uganda, and four other teams (two each from Group A and C)

Rwanda could be the party poopers, but Zimbabwe and Kenya are the clear favorites to win the top two slots. In their second game, Rwanda put Kenya to the test under the leadership of seasoned Clinton Rubagumya. Rubagumya & Co. dominated the Kenyan top order on Sunday after scoring 100/7, but the goal was ultimately too modest to defend.

Rwanda's landslide victory over the Gambia has put them in third place with two points and an NRR of -1.733. Today's unexpected victory over Zimbabwe would rock the group.
